News of the weird can now say they have touched on an electronic cigarette wreaking havoc and shutting down transportation methods. According to the New York Daily News, suspicious activity led to a call for “massive emergency response” and subsequently forced an intersection to shut down in Central England.
Bomb disposal units were called to the scene and passengers were evacuated by armed police, while ambulances and fire engines rushed to the scene for what ended up being called a false alarm.
This alarm was most certainly heightened and caused a frenzy due to the fact that the Olympics are coming up in a few weeks. After several hours of scene inspection there were zero arrests, zero suspects, and all the police had to fall back on was what they called a “genuine report” of vapor escaping from a bag. Again, the culprit – an e-cigarette.
While we’ve reported on some strange stuff in the past, this one borders on scary. You can never be too safe when you see something that looks like smoke or fire escaping from a bag on public transportation, but we wonder if the people who reported this did any fact-finding before blowing the whistle and causing alarm?
